Sony Sold 6.4 Million PlayStation 4s in Last Quarter Of 2014
The latest generation of consoles have been selling like hotcakes with the current numbers of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One outperforming their predecessors every step of the way. For the first time in the console cycle, the Xbox One is topping the PlayStation 4, but Sony are doing just fine on their front.
According to Eurogamer, the PlayStation 4 sold 6.4 Million consoles during the period of September 1, 2014 through to December 31, 2014. That is much bigger than last year too where the console shifted 'only' 4.5 million. This means that PlayStation is one of Sony's biggest successes as a business.
The PlayStation 3 understandably took a hit though, only selling new 1.1 million consoles. That is to be expected though and with the sales of the PlayStation 4 so high, I don't think anyone at Sony will be complaining.
It's great to see so many consoles getting out there and it really shows the industry is growing to be one of the premiere entertainment formats. That is only good for the community. Well, as long as it continues to experiment.
