After nearly nine years of complications (and essentially, being in the pits of development hell), the influential Spawn franchise has taken steps forward and backward for a long time. So much so that the creator of the character has even suggested that the film needs to be on track, or we could see Spawn go the independent route to get itself made. Either way, it's going to happen one day.

Spawn's Todd McFarlane is Hopeful About the Film's Future

Now, Spawn franchise creator Todd McFarlane recently took the time to discuss the current status of the next film, explaining, "Here's the thing about Hollywood. You have people at certain times that are attached. But again, there's also scheduling. I could want the greatest director, but if they say, 'You've got a project, and you've got a window, and you've got to shoot it in this time,' and that director isn't available? Then you go, 'Oh, man.' You've only got two choices, you either wait or you have to go to your other choices or whatever else."

McFarlane then continued, "We're all hoping, fingers crossed, that the team that we assembled at the beginning will still somehow all be involved. But we'll have to let it all play out, right? And because I think ultimately the people spending $100 million bucks are going to be the ones that are going to dictate [those big decisions]. But [Jamie Foxx] is my guy. So, until somebody tells me otherwise, Jamie is my guy."

During a press line for New York Comic Con last October, Blumhouse executive Jason Blum teased what fans should anticipate with its new adaption, admitting, "Yes, I'm going to bring the Blumhouse edge [to the Spawn movie]. It's going to be edgy and original as compared to other superhero movies. It's gonna definitely feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie."

Do you have high hopes for the next adaptation of Spawn starring Fox?
