Supergirl Season 3: Broadway Legend Betty Buckley Joins The Cast
Broadway legend Betty Buckley has been cast as Patricia Arias in the third season of Supergirl. Buckley, whose TV credits range from Eight is Enough to Pretty Little Liars and The Leftovers, may be best known for her work in musicals like 1776 and Cats. The Tony winner's character is the adopted mother of big-bad-to-be Samantha (Odette Annable), who is to become the Worldkiller Reign.
The CW description for the character says Arias has been estranged from her daughter since Sam became a teen mom, and things have become even more complicated due to the secrets Patricia holds. It's might be a safe bet that one of those secrets is that Sam is not of this Earth. Reign was sent to Earth at the same time as Kara Zor-El and Kal-El… how many Kryptonians were making child-size rockets anyway? No one thought to make a three-seater?
We saw Reign, the genetically engineered, world-killing weapon, being put into a ship at the end of Supergirl Season 2 in a flashback. Unlike the other two kids from Krypton, Reign wasn't rescued by loving parents sending her off with hope for a better life — she was sent off by hooded, faceless Kryptonians who seemed to have some questionable motives.
Buckley is scheduled to appear in the seventh episode of the new season, entitled 'Wake Up'.
The third season premiere of Supergirl airs Monday, October 9th at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
