The Beekeeper doesn't look like it's trying to remake the wheel in terms of its story. This is another one of those movies with the guy who isn't part of the government who goes on his own mission for his own reasons, but those reasons are actually supposed to be on the side of justice, and we're supposed to sit back and watch him blow the brains out of a bunch of disposable and cartoonishly over the top bad guys. There isn't anything wrong with the fact that this film doesn't appear to be very original. Sometimes, you need something that shows up and does exactly what it says it will do, do it well, and then leave without trying to overly complicate anything. If that is what The Beekeeper ends up giving us, then we're all here for it. A solid good time is a solid good time, and we know that David Ayer can make a good movie even if it has been a while, not to mention Jason Statham, who is always charismatic and fun to watch on screen. Amazon Studios and MGM have released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for the film that goes a little bit into the story, what we can expect from the film, and the fact that Statham is a badass who does his own stunts. We love to see it.
