The Lion King: Alfre Woodard As Sarabi And John Kani As Rafiki

We got two pieces of casting information for the remake of The Lion King today. The Jon Favreau directed remake made it debut at D23 late last month. The footage, which was exclusive to the con, was a remake of the Circle of Life scene from the beginning of the original movie. This movie is still a ways away but we do know that people are working on it. We already have Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and now Alfre Woodard has joined the cast as Sarabi, Simba's mother according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Marvel fans will recognize Woodard from her spectacular performance ad Mariah in Luke Cage last year. Sundance junkies will recognize her from Burning Sands. She's an Oscar-nominee and a Golden Globe winner. Let it not be said that this cast isn't pulling in some A+ names.

The second name reported today, this time by The Wrap, that John Kani has been cast as Rafiki, baboon who serves as an adviser to the royal family. Kani is another Marvel veteran this time appearing as King T'Chaka in Captain America: Civil War. He'll make appearing in Black Panther early next year.
