The Todd Phillips Joker Movie is "More of a Character Study" Plus a New Image
There are quite a few interesting superhero movies coming out this year but the biggest unknown of the group so far is without a doubt the Todd Phillips directed Joker movie. We haven't seen any footage from the movie just yet and only a few images shared on a couple of Instagram accounts. However, the people who have worked on the movie have shared some very interesting pieces of information about what we can expect. One of those people is Marc Maron and he spoke to NME about what we could expect from the movie.
"I think it's a very interesting approach to this world," Maron continued. "I've been somewhat judgemental when it comes to comic book movies and I've got a little pushback in the press for being a hypocrite. Whatever I think, if you get a call and someone says, 'Hey do you wanna do a scene with Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix?' your principals fall to the wayside. If it's relative to what I think of Marvel movies then it's like, 'Yeah, of course I'm gonna do that'. Oddly, it's not that kind of movie. The approach that Todd Phillips has taken is more of an origin story and a character study of a mentally ill person that becomes The Joker. It's more of an intimate and gritty movie with a very specific scope. It's going to be really interesting to see how it comes out."
Director Todd Phillips is also sharing some more images from the movie as he works on post-production. He shared a new one about a week ago and it doesn't look like what you would expect from a Joker movie.
We can expect more information about this movie to come out in the coming weeks. It has an October release date so we can expect some sort of teaser trailer to drop sometime during the summer with a first look perhaps coming sometime in the late spring via a magazine cover reveal in the late spring. Until we actually see something from this movie no one really knows how this one is going to turn out.
The Untitled Joker Movie / The Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, will star Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. It will be released on October 4th, 2019.
