Variety And The New Ghostbusters Movie – Sony Leaks…
On August 2nd, Variety reported that "Paul Feig in Talks to Direct 'Ghostbusters' Reboot With Women". I think we can now believe that this wasn't an officially approved story.Because we've been reading more of those Wikileaked Sony e-mails.
So how did Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal react to that news?
how did thoes f—ckers get this!!!!!
its such a big deal to be reported this way
Senior VP of Media Relations at Sony Jean Guerin replied,
It was leaked by someone close to the project. THR reported Feig, then Variety one upped them.
So much speculation on this franchise. When we close the deal, we'll position it our way and tell our story first exclusively.
This is amateur hour with these guys. I'm getting into it further.
And more importantly, how do these key takes and meetings get leaked?
So frustrating.
We would never go out with a "take" before a deal is not even near being closed. Very stupid of Variety as now they won't get it when/if it comes to fruition.
Poor Variety, they aren't going to get any more co-operation when talking about the new Ghostbusters movie, when…
And then there's the new "Ghostbusters," set to start filming in June, starring an all-female group of ectoplasm-fighters that includes Wiig and McCarthy. Feig is directing and co-wrote the script with Katie Dippold, who also penned "The Heat." News that it would be women busting ghosts practically broke the Internet with an unexpected backlash that smacked Feig in the face.
"The amount of vitriol did surprise me," the 52-year-old director acknowledges of the strong response on social media. "Some of the most vile, misogynistic sh-t I've ever seen my life." He's heard the phrase "You've ruined my childhood" so much in the past few months that he says it will be written on his tombstone. "It's so dramatic. Honestly, the only way I could ruin your childhood is if I got into a time machine and went back and made you an orphan."
From the new issue of Variety. Ah well….
