American Horror Story Season 8 Brings Billie Lourd Back to the Future
Actress Billie Lourd is set to go back to the future, returning to the twisted universe of Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story for season 8. Lourd will join her fellow AHS alums Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates. New cast member Joan Collins (Dynasty) has also joined, set to portray Peters's grandmother, and Anjelica Huston (Prizzi's Honor) may be back, though no deal has been finalized. Production on the eighth season of the FX series is expected to begin around June 16th.
While season 7's Cult storyline played heavily upon social and political themes, Murphy is going for a more "heightened" eighth season. Speaking last month at a "For Your Consideration" Emmy event in support of AHS, Murphy explained his vision for the new season: "It's not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We're sort of getting back to Asylum, and Coven. That's the tone of it."
As for the official title, Murphy continues to avoid addressing rumors that the season will be called American Horror Story: Radioactive — though he has confirmed recently that it will be set some 18 months in the future. Appearing at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in January 2018, Murphy gave the first nod at a futuristic theme for season 8 when he said, "All I'll say is that I want to go to the future." Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in March of this year, Murphy addressed the Radiaoctive talk more directly: "I heard about that rumor. Well, that's based on a fact that we've cleared a lot of titles for that show. It's an interesting idea. I can neither confirm nor deny."
Making her acting debut as Chanel #3 on Murphy's Fox horror-comedy series Scream Queens, Lourd would go on to join AHS's seventh season as Winter Anderson/Linda Kasabian. She recently reprised her role as Lieutenant Connix from Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the film's sequel, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
