"Carmen Sandiego" Season 2: A New Game's Afoot for Carmen & Her Crew in October
Good news, fans of adventure, cartoons, and red fedoras! Our favorite international jewel thief (among other things) Carmen Sandiego is back on Netflix with new episodes starting October 1.
The first season wasn't without its struggles story-wise, but overall it's a cute modern adaptation of a classic 90s edu-tainment franchise.
Annoying at times? Sure!
Tone and structure issues? A little!
Wholesome, fun, educational, and not cringe-worthy… for the whole family? You bet!
If you'd like a full recap of the first season, check out my thoughts on the series return here. If you're looking for a quick overview, I'll fill you in on the need-to-know info now.
Beware! MAJOR SPOILERS for the first season of Carmen Sandiego after the trailer… you have been warned!
The first season left off with Carmen having bested all of VILE academy's top graduates (the same academy that raised and taught her how to be a world class thief), including her "maybe love interest/like a brother" school bestie Graham. This ends with the academy erasing his memory – that includes all memories of Carmen!
Of course, that causes her to double-down on her retribution against VILE, the organization she thought she defeated. I'm sure it will pop back up again in season 2, because where else would she get the various sundry of villains to fight and protect the world's priceless historical artifacts from?
Also – I hope we see the return of the fabulous voice actors who bring the VILE villains to life – they're larger than life and full of sass and just the right amount of shenanigans.
Not to say the characters on Carmen's side aren't just as fabulous (yes, I'm looking at you, Gina Rodriguez and Finn Wolfhardt), but there's just something about the characters who are bad for the sake of the craft of being bad that's just so…delicious.
Regardless of your persuasion towards good or evil (or VILE, as it were), Carmen Sandiego and her "frenemies" will be back on Netflix with all new episodes October 1.
