Tom Baker's fourth season as the Fourth Doctor is the next release to come to Blu-ray when Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 15 releases later this year. However, it's the newly unveiled mini-episode written by Pete McTighe that is going to set off all kinds of fan speculation, like does it tie-into the "Time War" Big Finish series and lead into the Fourth Doctor and Leela Big Finish audios from the last few years?
Doctor Who fans can continue to build their own home archive on Blu-ray with a seven-disc box set of the 15th Season from 1977, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. Containing six classic stories, this limited-edition set is packed with hours of new and exclusive material. Series 15 was Louise Jameson's second and last season on the series with a haphazardly written exit where she suddenly tells the Doctor she wasn't leaving in the TARDIS with him because she suddenly, inexplicably fell in love with a wimpy Gallifreyan soldier. This is typical of the way female characters were written on British television in the 1970s, especially on genre shows.
Anyway, in the new Doctor Who minisode, Leela is shown taking her last stand in the Time War, cornered by Daleks. This may or may not make the "Time War" audio drama series from Big Finish canon. In that surprisingly long-running audio series, Leela became a general in the Time War and worked with Romana, who was originally played by Lalla Ward and eventually regenerated into Buffy the Vampire's Juliet Landau in the final episodes. Current showrunner Russell T. Davies has been a longtime fan of the Big Finish audio dramas, so he might have let this minisode get produced to put to rest questions about what happened to Leela. But do they really? Does this make the more recent Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Leela sort of canon too?
As for the Doctor Who Series 15 Blu-Ray boxset itself, the episodes have been newly remastered from the best available sources – these classic adventures have never looked or sounded so good on home media.
