Don Johnson, Louis Gossett Jr., Regina King, More Join HBO's Watchmen Cast

In what we imagine must be the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Watchmen scribe Alan Moore, HBO has announced that superstar actor Don Johnson will join the cast of David Lindelof's "remixed" Watchmen TV show. Regina King, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard will also join the show, according to a report from THR.

Information on what fans can expect from the show is scarce. Lindelof recently claimed that the project would be neither an adaptation nor a sequel, but rather a "remix" of Moore and Dave Gibbons's seminal work (not to be confused with Moore's fish-semenal work, Neonomicon). Moore, a wizard, has long opposed adaptations of Watchmen, but DC Entertainments owns the rights due to a contract technicality that Moore and many others believe contradicts the spirit of the agreement between the publisher and creators.

"This story will be set in the world its creators painstakingly built… but in the tradition of the work that inspired it, this new story must be original," Lindelof wrote in a five-page open letter posted to social media attempting to justify adapting the celebrated work against the wishes of its creators. "It has to vibrate with the seismic unpredictability of its own tectonic plates. It must ask new questions and explore the world through a fresh lens. Most importantly, it must be contemporary. The Old Testament was specific to the Eighties of Reagan and Thatcher and Gorbachev. Ours needs to resonate with the frequency of Trump and May and Putin and the horse that he rides around on, shirtless. And speaking of Horsemen, The End of the World is off the table…which means the heroes and villains–as if the two are distinguishable–are playing for different stakes entirely."

Wanna bet it ends up with everyone in a church?

"Some of the characters will be unknown," Lindelof continued. "New faces. New masks to cover them. We also intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising yet familiar set of eyes…and it is here we will be taking our greatest risks…"

With that being said, who these new cast members may play is completely up in the air. They may not be main characters from the original comic or even characters that exist at all. Even still, we'd love to hear your predictions in the comments.
