Gotham Season 5: On Day 45, The Scarecrow Rises – And He Brought Some Friends (PREVIEW)

Think Gotham City is a rough place to live now? Imagine taking a pre-Batman Gotham City and isolating it off from the rest of the world – pretty scary thought, right? That's the premise behind The Dark Knight's backstory series Gotham when the series returns to Fox for its fifth -and final – season on January 3, 2019. When the (in)famous city finds itself the target of a terrorist attack and cut off from the rest of the world, some of the city's most prominant citizens will rise to answer the call.

Unfortunately, "the city's most prominant citizens" consists of some of the hardest-hitting criminals a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) has ever had to face before. What did he learn on 'Day 45'? The Scarecrow (David W. Thompson) has a new look and a cult of dedicated faithful – with a clear message for Bruce, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), and the citizens of Gotham: Fear runs this city now…

GOTHAM: LEGEND OF THE DARK KNIGHT (Season 5): With Gotham on the brink of total anarchy and cut off from the outside world, only Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne and a handful of heroes remain behind to retake the city. Inspired by the "No Man's Land" arc from the comics, villains including Penguin, the Riddler, the Sirens and Jeremiah have taken claim on various regions of the city. Will order be restored, or will chaos reign in Gotham?

In the previous 'Day 1' and 'Day 22' clips, viewers witness firsthand (along with some familiar faces) the symbolic destruction of Gotham City's literal bridge to the outside world. Three weeks later, the situation goes from bad to righteously bad as food, supplies, ammo run low – and plans are underway for something to happen.

Gotham stars McKenzie as James Gordon, Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, and Sean Pertwee 's Alfred Pennyworth. Shane West (Salem, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) joins the cast as Eduardo Dorrane, an old army buddy of Jim Gordon's with some very close connections to a certain Dark Knight back-breaker known as Bane.
