The Morlocks Come to Fox's The Gifted in Season 2, Plus More X-Men "Straight Out of the Comics" [Trailer]

Season 2 of Fox's The Gifted aims to please comic book fans by introducing more characters from the X-Men comics. Showrunner Matt Nix revealed these plans during The Gifted panel at San Diego Comic-Con, with the most pertinent quotes from the panel helpfully posted on Marvel.com.

"We've got some really exciting characters who are straight out of the comics," Nix told panel attendees of Season 2. "The deeper you read the comics, the more you'll enjoy who we're bringing in."

Meanwhile, Jamie Chung, who plays Blink on the show, dropped the biggest reveal of the panel: The Morlocks are coming to The Gifted Season 2. Chung said that, in the new season, Blink has "settled into her place [in the Mutant Underground], which is later questioned with the Morlocks. There's a different mutant group she seems fascinated by." X-Men comics readers will recognize the Morlocks as a group of outcast mutants living in tunnels underneath New York City, created by Chris Claremont and Paul Smith and first appearing in Uncanny X-Men #169 back in 1983.

Skyler Samuels, who plays all of the Stepford Cuckoos, teased more exploration of the Hellfire Club, as well as tensions between the Cuckoos themselves. Blair Redford promised fans can expect his character Thunderbird to get "really hot and heavy with Blink!" And Eclipse actor Sean Teale said that his character "might get too erratic" as Polaris grows closer to giving birth despite the fact that "the woman that he loves and his unborn child are nowhere near him and, due to a difference in ideology, actively trying to evade him."

Polaris actress Emma Dumont said that the season will open with her character nine months pregnant and beginning to empathize with her father, Magneto, saying, "she understands you have to make sacrifices when you've been given this gift, and maybe her father isn't such a bad guy. Maybe they're alike…"
