NXT 6/17/2020 Report Part 1 – WWE Finally Brings Back Vomit

AEW Dynamite was two hours of almost nonstop wrestling, but NXT isn't intimidated. Tonight, NXT has got two tag team championship matches to look forward to. Breezango are challenging Imperium, and Sasha Banks and Bayley are visiting to defend against Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart.

WWE NXT 6/17/2020

We see Sasha and Bayley arriving earlier. It should be noted that this show was taped at the end of a marathon taping session today, following chaos in WWE as an NXT trainee tested positive for COVID-19. That forced WWE to cancel yesterday's tapings and double up today, though they had a delay in the morning trying to get everyone tested. All of the main roster shows were taped at the performance center before WWE headed to Full Sail for NXT. So needless to say, everyone must be exhausted tonight.

The men's tag team match is the opener. Imperium comes out first, followed by Breezango, who are cosplaying as Imperium for their entrance. Imperium attacks and sends Fandango out of the ring. Marcel Bartel starts out with Tyler Breeze and takes control of the bell. He tags in Fabian Aichner, who puts Breeze in an arm submission. He works him over until Breeze takes himself and Aichner over the top rope and to the floor with a crossbody, but that doesn't work out in Breeze's favor as Bartel attacks Breeze and he and Aichenr toss him face-first into the plexiglass barrier.

Aichner throws Breeze back in the ring and gets a two-count. Imperium beats on Breeze for a while until Breeze manages to tag in Fandango. Fandango cleans house and then hits a flip over the top rope to the outside on Imperium as NXT goes to its first commercial break. When it comes back, Aichner hits a brainbuster on Tyler Breeze to retake control of the match. With Bartel back in, Breeze hits an enziguri and tags in Fandango. Fandango hits the Faux Paux, but Aichner breaks up the pin. Bartel tags in Aichner, but Fandango and Breeze dole out superkicks. Fandango foes to the top rope for a Last Dance leg drop on Aichner, but Bartel makes the save.

Bartel dumps Breeze. Fandango dumps Bartel. Indus Sher comes to ringside, and they're attacked by Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. In the chaos, Fandango tries a rollup on Bartel, but Aichner is the legal man. He hits a DDT on Fandango for the pinfall.

Winners and still Tag Team Champions: Imperium

Tom Phillips talks to Velveteen Dream over Zoom. Dream says he and Dexter Lumis are not a team. Dream is a solo act.

We see Damian Preist arriving at Full Sail, filmed earlier in the day, and then it's commercial time. Afterward, Priest comes to the ring. Why does Mauro Ranallo call Priest the Archer of Infamy? He doesn't seem to have a bow and arrow. Someone email me and fill me in.

Killian Dane heads out to help Priest get his heat back after losing to Finn Balor at NXT Takeover: In Your House. It's an excellent old-fashioned hoss fight. Priest sells a back injury from Takeover during the match. Priest's wrestling is good — both men are way more athletic than they should be at their size — but I'm not sure I understand precisely what his gimmick is. Is he, like, a satanic Baron Corbin? The match is relatively short but hard-hitting. Priest gets the pinfall off the Reckoning.

Winner: Damian Priest

We see a promo for the artist formerly known as El Hijo del Fantasma. He's going to rewrite the history of lucha libre tonight. After commercials, of course. Xia Li comes out, rubbing it on AEW that half of their women's division isn't out with an injury. She's fighting Aliyah, but Aliyah sees Robert Stone passed out near the stage with a bottle of hooch. She picks him up and brings him to the ring. Hey, he's looking kind of sick. Does he have a temperature? The women lock up to start the match, and Aliyah hits a Lou Thez Press and some punches. Li returns fire with kicks, backing Aliyah into the corner and onto the turnbuckles, Aliyah flips off and hits a Northern Lights suplex on Li. Li gits a jumping roundhouse kick and more strikes, then a running forearm in the corner and a dropkick off an Irish whip.

Then Robert Stone clubs up to the apron and pukes into the ring. My god! Robert Stone has coronavirus! And he's puking coronavirus all over the ring! Aliyah rolls up Li, but they screw up the finish. Li accidentally kicks out, and the ref has to restart the count before getting to three. The show heads to commercials, so Triple H can Clorox wipe the mat.

Winner: Nobody, least of all the viewers

After the break, we get a lesson in submissions from Timothy Thatcher's wrestling school. Kids, don't try this at home.

We see a segment filmed earlier today where Adam Cole and Bobby Fish talk to Roderick Strong about getting some therapy to get over his experience with Dexter Lumis. They bring him to a psychiatrist, who says Roderick has to face the trunk he was locked in, which is the source of his anxiety. Undisputed Era heads outside and tries to get Strong to get in a trunk, but he runs away. Cole thinks it went well. Backstage, blonde interviewer (they'll say her name eventually and maybe I'll remember it) talks to Cole about the ending of last week's show, where Scarlet put Cole on notice on behalf of Karrion Kross. Keith Lee interrupts and wants a private moment with Cole. He says Cole's time with the Championship will be up soon, but it will be Lee that takes it from him, not Kross. More commercials, which makes for a perfect time for us to switch over to part two of this recap. See you there soon.
