"Rick and Morty": For Robo-Mortys, It's "Vive la Flavor Stack Révolution!" at Super Bowl LIV [TEASER]
Fans of Adult Swim's Rick and Morty had been counting down the months and days until Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland's animated mayhem returned to their screens once more. That wait ended with season premiere "Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat" (reviewed here), where we got a crash course in "death crystals" and gained a deeper understanding of just how hard it would be to kill Rick Sanchez – and keep him dead.
As we suffer through the series' midseason break, we're getting an update on the pair's appearance during this year's NFL Super Bowl LIV via an original :30 animated spot set to air during the second quarter, courtesy of snack crisps Pringles. Now, we're getting our first teaser – one that shows a classroom full of robo-Mortys being programmed with the importance of flavor stacking in what looks like a Pringles-loving cult.
Could this be an Evil Morty plot to take over "The Big Game"? Looks like we'll find out what this is all about on February 2… just a word of caution? Don't watch this too many times – that damn mantra will creep into your brains like it did ours:
So here's the deal: beginning early February 2020, Pringles will honor the animated series with its very own flavor: Pickle Rick, in honor of the award-winning episode. The special edition flavor will come in a customized cannister and will be available coast-to-coast in time for the championship game – set for Sunday, February 2, 2020.
"We're very thoughtful about who we partner with around Rick and Morty and we couldn't be more pleased with our new relationship with Pringles. Not only are the Rick and Morty show creators making a hilarious spot for the Big Game, we're extending this partnership in really exciting ways, all year long. Rick and Morty fans are going to be given amazing new opportunities to illustrate their love for this iconic show, thanks to Pringles."
– Jill King, Senior VP – Marketing and Partnerships, Adult Swim
"The Old Man and the Seat" (our review here) proved a brilliant balance between sharp social satire and a gut-punch examination of love, loss, control… and poop. Which lead to "One Crew Over the Crewcoo's Morty", which "heisted" our minds in such a way that it made it our favorite episode of the season so far (check out our review here).
After a week to sleep it all off, our dimension-hopping dysfunctional duo returned with "Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim's Morty" – which found us obsessing over a talking cat with a horrific backstory (impressive considering the main storyline involved "sexy dragons – our review's here).
From the Upfronts earlier in the summer, there was the announcement of season 4 with an accompanying video (see below), and red carpet interviews with Harmon and Roiland that teased (jokingly?) a Rick and Morty future with Daniel Radcliffe and Kanye West in it. In late June, Adult Swim announced a second addition of its two-day festival in Los Angeles – which will be of particular interest to fans (more below).
And then? Things got serious with the season 4 trailer…

Buckle in for disappointment because there's no way these episodes will be good enough for how long you waited. But maybe they will be? It's season four! It's sexy and smooth. Buckle in! Did I already say that? Definitely stay buckled in.
Rick and Morty is the Emmy-award-winning half-hour animated hit comedy series on Adult Swim that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe. Rick Sanchez is living with his daughter Beth's family and constantly bringing her, his son-in-law Jerry, granddaughter Summer, and grandson Morty into intergalactic escapades.
Rick and Morty stars Justin Roiland (Adventure Time), Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live), and Spencer Grammer (Greek). The series is created by Dan Harmon (Community) and Roiland, who also serve as executive producers.
