Jacksonville Jaguars Jalen Ramsey Recovering After Core Muscle Surgery
What they used to call a 'Sports Hernias', a strain or tear of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) in the lower abdomen or groin area, is now known by the less specific term, "Core Muscle Injury'. But how ever you choose to call it, surgery to repair one is going to put Jalen Ramsey on the shelf for a few weeks. Ramsey had the surgery to repair the tear this morning and while there is not specific timetable for his return, NFL Networks Mike Garafolo says he is expected to recover in time for the start of the 2017 season.
This will come as a relief to Jacksonville Jaguars fans as Ramsey, along with A.J. Bouye, are considered a promising young cornerback duo and key to the Jaguars' defense reaching the next level.
Ramsey released a statement through Jaguars.com:
To all my supporters and fans, I want you to know that I chose to undergo surgery to treat a minor injury that was very successful. I want to and will be the best version of myself that I can be for the upcoming 2017 season. I will attack this rehab, refine my body and work as hard as I ever have to become the best Defensive Back in this league and to make everyone, including my family, teammates and city, proud of who I am. I can't wait to be back on the field with the team and show the world how we're rocking this year.
The 22-year-old Ramsey played well last year with 2 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 14 pass breakups, a forced fumble and 55 solo tackles. Bouye, who played with the Houston Texans in 2016, had an interception, a sack and 63 tackles. The 25-year-old signed a five-year, $65.7M contract with the Jaguars in March. The Jags are hoping that these two will pair up for a long time in their defensive backfield. The Jags have six-weeks before training camp begins and it is possible Ramsey could return by then or shortly after.
