'Star Wars Resistance' Season 1, Episode 19: In "The Disappeared" The First Order Is More Visible Than Ever [SPOILER REVIEW]

The last few episodes of Disney Channel's Star Wars Resistance have depicted the slow-rolling descent of the Colossus into full First Order control. The First Order orchestrated the kidnapping of Torra Doza (Myrna Velasco), only to then "rescue" her. Using the kidnapping as leverage, the First Order gained a foothold on the refueling station. With each episode, the First Order's control over the Colossus has increased while the facade of Captain Doza's (Jason Hightower) control continued to wane. In this week's episode "The Disappeared," the First Order is done pretending – and no one is truly safe.

Warning! Communications blanket is lifting! Spoilers below…

The episode begins with a race, as the Aces are finally flying again. But it quickly becomes clear that Commander Pyre (Liam McIntyre) and the First Order want the races – and all other non-First Order flying around the place – to stop. On a station known for its superstar pilots and nail-biting races, the news that races are cancelled indefinitely was unwelcome. Adding to that, the Aces could no longer protect the station themselves. The pilots are livid – Hype (Donald Faison) most of all… and then Hype disappears.

Turns out Hype isn't the only one who has disappeared: other residents on the Colossus have gone missing. When asked by Tam (Suzie McGrath), the Stormtroopers say that the missing have gotten permission to leave the station – but Tam seems to be the only one who believes it. When Colossus barkeep and lynchpin Aunt Z (Tovah Feldshuh) goes missing after she denies the First Order permission to put recruiting advertisements in her bar, Kaz (Christopher Sean) and Torra know they have to do something. For once, Yeager (Scott Lawrence) and Captain Doza don't stop Kaz's escapade (though they notably don't help him, either).

Kaz and Torra take out the prisoner transport meant to transpot the missing Colossus denizens and help Aunt Z and the others escape the station – but things get much, much worse. Kaz returns to find Yaeger's whole team being arrested by Commander Pyre. The excrement has hit the rotational cooling device.

It is pretty obvious that things are really bad for our heroes – but to be fair, things have been getting bad for a long time. With Niku (Josh Brener) being socially awkward, Tam believing they are better off with the help of the First Order, and Poe (Oscar Isaac) and BB-8 off meeting a disgruntled Stormtrooper and an emo former-Jedi, Kaz is short on allies. Yeager has seemingly been through something like this before, so he can help Kaz if able, but everyone else is a mystery. I have an inkling that Tam might have to learn about the First Order the hard way. I just hope they all survive it.

Until now, Star Wars Resistance has been a rather upbeat show: an adventure comedy with a hint of intrigue. But as the Colossus slowly bends under the weight of the First Order's totalitarian rule, Resistance has gone to a much darker place. In fact, the change seems even more dramatic because the show started out so light-hearted. One can't help but wonder how much more the denizens of the Colossus can bend before they break.

All of this leads to a number of lingering questions:

How do the events on the Colossus impact the storyline of The Force Awakens and the overall film franchise's canon? Will we ever really know? Will we just catch glimpses of the Resistance as the Colossus faces its own private war with the Resistance?

With only a few more episodes left this season, we may be getting some answers soon.

Maybe…

New episodes of Star Wars Resistance air Sunday nights at 10:00pm on The Disney Channel.
