The Gifted Season 2: Showrunner Matt Nix Talks the Season Finale
The final two episodes of the second season of The Gifted promise a lot of things coming to a head. At the moment there are three different factions fighting but only two of them really have the resources to do damage. The Purifier's are deadly, as the last episode showed, and the Inner Circle has Reeva as a leader and she is more than willing to spill blood. In the middle, we have the very splintered Mutant Underground who might have some heavy hitters but nothing heavy enough to take on either faction. Showrunner Matt Nix spoke to /Film about what we can expect from season 2 finale.
Well, over the course of the season, obviously we've seen the Purifiers ramping up at the same time that the Inner Circle's ramping up. Those tensions are going to come to a head in a big way. Basically, as we head into the finale, we begin to see what is the nature of this relationship between Reeva and Benedict Ryan. What is the future they're trying to create for our nation and our world.
These types of shows tend to introduce major new characters to tease for the next season. However, it sounds like Nix isn't planning on doing something like that for the final episodes of season 2.
Nothing major. We're making some big moves but there are no major character reveals as I recall. There are some new characters but nothing huge.
He was asked to confirm that there weren't any major new characters that are going to be introduced in these final episodes. For now, we'll have to see how this second season wraps up. It could very easily end up being the series finale since the ratings haven't been great, but we'll have to see. There is a fanbase and it is pretty dedicated. Maybe Fox will throw the show a bone for a third season or maybe Hulu will save it like Netflix saved Lucifer last year.
Action-adventure family drama THE GIFTED, from Marvel, tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
Created by Matt Nix, FOX's The Gifted stars Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percey Hynes White, Sean Teale, Emma Dumont, Jamie Chung, and Blair Redford. It will air on February 19th at 9 PM.
