"The Kids in the Hall": Amazon Prime Reunites Sketch Comedy Team for New Eps [BONUS: Objectively, Their Funniest Sketch Ever]
As sketch comedy series go, some of our "usual suspects" are favorites Saturday Night Live, Fridays, Mr. Show, In Living Color, SCTV, and – of course – the fine lads of The Kids in the Hall. On Thursday, Amazon Prime Video revealed that original "Kids" Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson are set to return for eight new episodes of the critically-acclaimed comedy series – the first Canadian Amazon Original Series.
Foley, McDonald, McCulloch, McKinney, and Thompson are set to reprise some fan-favorite characters from the original series, which originally ran from 1989 to 1995 on CBC in Canada and in the U.S. on CBS, HBO, and Comedy Central. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels is set to executive produce, with Michaels' Broadway Video producing alongside Canadian production company Project 10.
"Even after 30 years, The Kids in the Hall has retained its brilliance and originality. We are happy to be bringing back all of the original 'Kids' for the new series."
– Lorne Michaels
What this news also does is give us the opportunity to present to you what we consider to be one of the best sketches from The Kids in the Hall – as Foley and McDonald representing the pop culture struggle that exists between the informed and the stubbornly ignorant – with a great ending:
"We've been investing in Canada for several years and are excited to add to that momentum by making The Kids in the Hall the first Canadian Amazon Original series. The Kids in the Hall is an iconic show with a deep-rooted fan base. Several of our global hits, including The Boys, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and The Expanse have been filmed in Canada and we are looking forward to continuing our work with talented producers and crew teams across the country to bring this series to our Prime members around the world."
