Thursday Runaround – Today's Marvel Interns, Tomorrow's Comic Superstars
CageWatch: Nick Cage talks about his comic book…
I'd say it's my obsession. When Virgin Comics approached me about starting my own line of books, I told them I had no idea, but my son might. So, Weston and I brainstormed Voodoo Child. There were a lot of stories that deserve to be told from there, so we ventured into it.
RossWatch: DC Comics have, in the past, been very wary of using real people in their comics. Again, this is a sign that things are changing at DC when Jonathan Ross will appear in Knight And Squire.
But where's his beard?
SpeechWatch: Paul Gravett and Bryan Talbot will be speaking at the terribly posh Surrealism, Science Fiction & Comics lectures at the Courtauld Institute on the 22nd January.
This is The Bleeding Cool ComicChron Robot speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.
Normally, this email comes out Tuesday morning. We held it for a day, because we wanted to share something we have been playing around with in Graphicly Labs. If you check out this post on iFanboy, you will see our web player embedded at the bottom of the post. Its rough. Its simple. But, its so darn cool! (At least I think so).

Joss Whedon — The Endless Season: Wrapping up Buffy Season 8
So, our endless season ends. We've laughed, we've cried, we've thrown up a little in our mouths, but most of all we've learned. Not you guys—us. We've learned what you like, what you don't, how this TV show translated to the world of comics, and how it didn't quite.
Interview: DC Comics O.G. Jim Lee Breaks Down "DC Universe Online" | Complex.com
Jim Lee: Well, I don't think you can do a project of this scope without encountering obstacles and roadblocks. It's part of the journey of any huge, creative endeavor. I think the hardest part for me and my team was maintaining the focus and attention to detail when you're creating hundreds and hundreds of designs, assets, and environments over a five-year stretch.
Marvel currently averages around 30 interns per semester, working in one of several departments such as Editorial, Digital Media, Production (aka 'The Bullpen'), Promotions, Legal and even Accounting. Marvel offers internships only to current full-time college students and only if they receive course credit. In addition to the offices in New York City, a Marvel internship can also take one to Marvel Studios in Manhattan Beach, California.

Newly minted Senior Vice President of Publishing Tom Brevoort? Former intern.
"There are approximately 25 employees currently on staff that were at one point a Marvel intern," reveals Internship Coordinator Sara DelGreco.
Garth Ennis's Knights of the Sky, Part One: The Phantom Eagle « The Comics Journal
This is the essence of Ennis's view on war: However just the cause, however honorable the fighters — war has its own logic and its own demands. It is utterly indifferent to individual lives or human values.
I hand delivered the 5-page T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS story upon docking in New York and now I'm working on the illos for my brother's memoirs. On Monday I begin laying out three covers for a trio of GREEN LANTERN books… Then I'm set to draw a mini-series called THE SECRET SEVEN and have been asked to draw a short JSA story for an upcoming anniversary… I've also been approached by DC about being involved in a major project which might reunite me with a certain Amazon Princess. Just at the discussion stage right now, but it can prove interesting. We'll see. All this, plus finishing more commission pieces, designing a movie poster for LEGEND OF THE RED REAPER for my dear friend Tara Cardinal and designing characters and visuals for another proposed super-hero movie called RELATIVELY SUPER written by my Moonlight buddy, Sonny Dyon–<br />
Not to mention overseeing the color proofs for the long awaited NEW TEEN TITANS: GAMES graphic novel and I definitely have a full load for 2011.
Marvel Joins the Digital Age!… On Paper
Whether that's an actual first or just something I'm noticing for the first time, it both impressed and tickled me. "What a good idea! Just point people right to his Handbook entry online. They should start doing that a lot more. Now, if only this were available in some format that allowed me to click the link."
Working for a living: Joe Casey | The Beat
I find it hilarious that Image would be seen as some sort of "stepping stone" that leads specifically to Big Two employment. Isn't it obvious that doing your own comics is the goal, the ultimate career destination?
