Liz Moran Wears Knickers In Miracleman – But Only In The Digital Version

Marvelman/Miracleman has a history of people trying to sensor various bits and pieces, as it challenged a variety of social mores over sex, nudity and violence. Miracleman #9, featuring a graphic depiction of childbirth taken from childbirth books, saw Steve Geppi of Diamond Comic Distributors ban the comic, saying,

Diamond values its retailers too much to take chances on such a dangerous situation… We are not censors. We no more want someone deciding for us than you do. We cannot, however, stand by and watch the marketplace become a dumping ground for every sort of graphic fantasy that someone wants to live out. We have an industry to protect; we have leases to abide by; we have a community image to maintain.

Though he eventually backed down from this position. And the marketplace became a dumping ground for every sort of graphic fantasy that someone wants to live out. And quite right too.

But the digital dimension is different. And despite everyone knowing that the internet is for porn, Apple disagree., And their standards interpreted by ComiXology have led to books being banned. And today? In order to get around any such issues, well Marvel have taken to putting knickers on Liz Moran, Miracleman's wife.

But only… in digital. In print, her bottom remains bare. Garry Leach seemed rather bemused by the news earlier today (video coming soon).

How the digital version is going to cope with the graphic childbirth issue, I have no idea… here's Lance Parkin, author of Magic Words: The Extraordinary Life of Alan Moore suggestion for Bleeding Cool.
