ODST Is Being Added To The Master Chief Collection For Free If You've Played Already

Halo ODSTIt is no secret that the AAA space has had a troubled time the last few months when it comes to launches. A ton have been plagued with technical and online issues, turning some of the most anticipated releases of the year into huge disappointments.

One of the games affected was Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The game was supposedly plagued with a lot of matchmaking problems making the online component, the reason a large portion of the audience would have bought the collection, somewhat unreliable.

343 Industries have recognized this and the team is working to make up for the issues, in quite substantial ways too. In post on Halo Waypoint, studio head Bonnie Ross apologized for the problems and made it clear that the team were disappointed in the issues with the game.

This has been a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can – and need – to do better for Xbox fans around the world.

She then said to make up for it, if you played Halo: The Master Chief Collection between the 11th of November and 19th December, you'll be getting a bunch of free content. Starting with nameplates, avatars and a free month of Xbox Live. More significantly, you're going to be getting a whole Halo game for free. The free content was outlined as:

  • Halo 3: ODST CampaignDevelopment has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original "Halo 3: ODST" campaign.

  • "Relic" Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map Available via a free content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will reimagine the fan-favorite map "Relic," fully remastered and running at 1080p resolution and 60fps. We chose this map based on its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes. And you can trust that Certain Affinity will tune and tweak the map to make it even better than you remember.

That is a pretty significant apology. Halo 3: ODST has somewhat of a cult following. That will please dedicated fans to no end.

This does seem to suggest that the is hope of Halo: Reach coming to the collection later down the line. If that happened, the collection would have every single main series game produced by Bungie. That is a ludicrous deal.
