Speculator Corner: The Effect Of The Sony/Marvel Spider-Man Deal

So Sony and Marvel have done a deal to integrate Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How might that affect the price of certain comic books? Well it probably shouldn't but it is.

3687424-$_57While modern comic book fans might associate Spider-Man joining the Avengers with the New Avengers series by Brian Bendis and David Finch that also brought in Wolverine, Daredevil and anyone else with a film out. Issue 3 of that series saw Captain America officially recruit him for the team – and it also has The Purple Man, to be seen in the new AKA Jessica Jones Netflix series played by David Tennant.

But Spider-Man was an Avenger before. The two issues of note seem to be Avengers #316 where Spider-Man agrees to join the Avengers and #329 where he officially becomes a reserve Avenger.

Look left, you can see him behind Captain America's shoulder.

All three appear to have market appeal. Right now New Avengers #3 sells for $50 CGC 9.8 but under $6 raw, Avengers #316 has suddenly jumped to $46 CGC 9.8 and $10 raw and Avengers #329 up to $6 raw.

All indications that people are buying up copies, and that these are potential market sellers.

And if not, well, people are going to make them.

All because Sony and Marvel made a deal…
