Call of Duty has been on a slow decline ever since the franchise high of Black Ops II. Which makes the upcoming Black Ops III interesting. Will it recapture the series highs by riding on a sequel or is the Call of Duty fatigue big enough to pull even this game down?

Well, if these Black Ops II numbers are to be believed, in theory it should be fine. In a recent financial call (via Eurogamer), Activision revealed that the game still enjoys a very healthy 12 million player base last quarter.

That is more than most active multiplayer games feature now, and Black Ops II is three years old and isn't on new generation consoles. That is pretty mad. Seeing how well Black Ops III does, in cold hard numbers, will make for fascinating reading.
