Why You Should Watch The CW's Vixen Animated Series Tonight
Tonight the CW is airing the Vixen animated series in its entirety as a two-hour block starting at 8 p.m., and I think fans of any part of the Arrowverse should tune in.
Why? Well, firstly, it's a great story that tells the history of Mari McCabe (Megalyn Echikunwoke), her mystic Anansi Totem that allows her to take on the essence of any animal, and her evil sister Kuasa (Anika Noni Rose). It also introduces us to the four other Anansi Totems.
The series also includes the guest voices of Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Emily Bett Rickards, Brandon Routh, Katie Cassidy, Carlos Valdes, Franz Drameh and Victor Garber — in other words, Green Arrow, The Flash, Felicity, The Atom, Black Canary, Vibe and Firestorm.
If that's not enough reason, then how about the fact that McCabe's grandmother is Amaya Jiwe (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), the current Vixen on DC's Legends of Tomorrow? Or that they will be bringing the character of Kuasa to the series in Season 3 (as played by Tracy Ifeachor), and you learn in the animated series how she comes across her powers? (Hint: it may have to do with another one of those Anansi Totems.)
And if that's not enough, the whole thing is only 61 minutes long, while the CW has allotted 2 hours. Subtracting time for commercials, there's about 17 minutes of time open, and the network is going to use that to get information out of the executive producers of the Arrowverse series. Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim, Phil Klemmer, Wendy Mericle, and Todd Helbing all appear in the trailer below. Odds are we're going to get a few tidbits about the upcoming sixth season of Arrow, fourth season of The Flash, third seasons of Supergirl and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and maybe we'll get something about the upcoming Black Lightning series.
Vixen airs tonight at 8 p.m. on the CW.
