Bleeding Cool Game Awards: Best Action/Adventure Game

For Bleeding Cool's Best Action/ Adventure Game of 2017, our three esteemed games judges were asked to weigh in on the best of the action and adventure game market to determine which was the absolute best action/adventure game of the year. It was a pretty stiff competition that mostly came down to two games, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Evil Within 2.

The nominees are:

• Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
• Horizon: Zero Dawn
• Nioh
• Resident Evil VII: Biohazard
• The Evil Within 2
• Super Mario Odyssey

The judges scores were:

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a precious baby of a game, and we all love it for good reason. The Evil Within 2 was the shocker, taking out Super Mario Odyssey for the shot at second thanks to our tie-breaker. There are quite a few similarities between Evil Within and Horizon – both are lengthy third-person, story driven epics. Where they differ is their heart. The Evil Within wants to scare and torment you, while Horizon wants to make you hopeful. And with as shitty as 2017 has been, it seems like our judges were in dire need of some hope.

Super Mario Odyssey was almost too easy of a game to do well in this category, and it's entirely likely our judges had some salty feelings about that since every one of them slotted it neatly as their third choice. Because Evil Within went to second place for two of our judges, it was decided Evil Within would win in the tie-breaker round.
