New Photo of Tom Hanks in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Last year we got the fantastic documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? which contributed to a bunch of people crying as they realized that Fred Rogers really was as good of a person as we all thought he was. There was something comforting about learning that fact in times when it feels like everyone is just varying degrees of terrible. Won't You Be My Neighbor? went on to do well and even got a mainstream theatrical release which doesn't happen with documentaries as much as we would like. It wasn't that big of a surprise when Sony announced their intentions to do a movie and even less surprised when Tom Hanks was cast in the role. Sony has shared a new picture from the movie on their official Twitter account.
Summary: Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America's most beloved neighbor.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, directed by Marielle Heller, stars Tom Hanks, Matthew Rhys, Enrico Colantoni, Chris Cooper, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Sakina Jaffrey. It will be released on October 18, 2019.
