IDW is Launching a New Care Bears Comic in July
IDW announced plans to launch a new Care Bears comic at WonderCon Saturday. The comic will be based on the new Care Bears cartoon from Boomerang, Care Bears: Unlock the Magic. Matthew Erman and Nadia Shammas will co-write the comic, with art by Agnes Garbowska.
THR reported the news, and in a shocking twist for comics journalism, which sometimes doesn't even mention the artist on a project, THR only included a quote from Garbowska and not either of the writers in their article.
"I am extremely excited to be working on Care Bears since it was such a huge part of my childhood and impacted me greatly," Garbowska said. "I hope the series brings the same love and joy to new fans as it did for me."
Meanwhile, Sean Gorman, President of Care Bears IP owners Cloudco Entertainment, talked about living the @#$%ing dream, selling Care Bears comics not only to young children but also to the franchise's legions of adult fans, known colloquially as Carebronies.
"We're thrilled to be collaborating with IDW Publishing on a new comic book series that will appeal to Care Bears fans of all ages," Gorman said. "Care Bears No. 1 introduces fresh content to our heritage fans while creating a new and exciting world for young fans to explore."
Tony Fleecs will be providing a variant for the first issue, which hits stores in July. You can see the regular cover by Garbowska, who totally owned this press release, below.
