Can't Kill Rock: We Tried "No Straight Roads" At PAX West 2019
Back at PAX East 2019 we were introduced to No Straight Roads from Metronomik. This time around, we actually got to play a full demo at PAX West 2019. If you're not familiar with this game, you play as a duo rock band called Bunk Bed Junction. You've just gone on TV to perform on the biggest talent show they have, and are rejected. Why? Because you live in a world filled with EDM music, and everyone in charge hates rock. SO much so, you'd swear it was a government conspiracy. So you decide to go on the bold mission of playing rock as an indie band to start a revival/revolution. Will you succeed in bringing rock back and toppling the EDM world you are living in?
We tried just that. The demo gave us two battles, the tutorial where you play on the talent show, and one versus a DJ at a club with plans for the universe. The game is based on action and rhythm, so you fight in accordance with the beat using both characters. You can trade-off between them to get different powers and abilities while allowing them to heal and recover. You can see the full footage of what we played below in case you're interested, but this was an awesome experience that reminded us of games like Jet Set Radio. No Straight Roads is set to be released sometime in 2020.
