We've seen all manner of boy wonders and amazing friends in comics over the years, but has an indestructible, tech-enhanced canine ever buddied up to a major superhero before?
Well, in today's Bloodshot Reborn #14, Jeff Lemire and Mico Suayan introduce us to Bloodhound, one of the several Bloodshots in "Bloodshot Island" to be hunted by Deathmate, killed by Deathmate, and rejuvenated by their captors to repeat the process day in and day out.
Bloodhound looks to be a major star for this story arc… Or, at least, he was going to be…
Picking up where Clark Kent's son left off in the new Superman #1 two weeks ago, the issue quickly puts this new four-legged hero through the wringer at the hands of Deathmate – who quickly lives up to her name by eviscerating Bloodhound on panel during a battle:
Ouch. That certainly seems like a more labored way to go than death by heat vision, doesn't it? But never fear pet lovers, Bloodhound will be healed up and back in action next month — as evidenced by next month's Bloodshot Reborn #15 cover by Ben Oliver:
