Avatar Press Uses Diamond Previews For An Alan Moore/Garth Ennis/Warren Ellis April Sale
Avatar Press is the publisher of Bleeding Cool. I really need to say this at the top of this article. Some people think I should say this at the top of every article. Avatar never bought Bleeding Cool, they started it and hired me to write for it. Then a few other folk. That's the way it's always been, that's the way it is now. I've been Head Comics Writer since, which you think would mean something, but they still hired Jude Terror. Anyway.
We're about to get the new Diamond Previews, but there was something I wanted to note in the one from last month. Because Avayar Press did something I haven't seen anyone do before – not like this. Not for comics.
They relisted a lot of previously published collections – but all at sale price. Rather than the usual $15 to $25, they're at $5.99 each. Including prominent work from Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Si Spurrier, Maz Brooks, Kieron Gillen, Jonathan Hickman, David Lapham, George RR Martin, Dave Gibbons, Jacen Burrows, Paul Duffield, David Lloyd, Juan Jose Ryp and many many more,
And rather than the sale price being aimed at retailers, who could then charge what they wanted for them – including full price – this sale was aimed, through Diamond, through comic stores, at the buying public.
I wonder if this will catch on?
Here are the pages in question…
