Photos: 'Black Panther' Got A Fashion Show In Washington, DC
Fantom Comics of Washington, DC did something a little different over the weekend. Quoting Ayo from Captain America: Civil War, they named their event Move or You Will Be Moved, and created a fashion show and marketplace as if it were in the nation Wakanda. From the event description:
"We've got one of the best blerd communities around–so it's a no-brainer that we're gonna put together a Black Panther-inspired fashion show, featuring a mix of cosplay and Wakandan street fashion. On top of that, the event will feature a marketplace of local black creators selling their jewelry, clothing, and other Afrofuturist fashion accessories! EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO DRESS FOR THIS OCCASION"
A Black Panther fashion show. Reacting to a lack of Black Panther merchandise with less than a year 'til the movie, this is an attempt to lead the way. With comics, clothes, music, jewellery, merchandise, and mixing Black Panther shots consisting of vodka and ginger ale, the party kicked off with "Legend Has It" by Run The Jewels.
The Austin Chronicle talked to Trae, a young man dressed as his interpretation of a Wakandan citizen, describing his look as "40 percent Kunta, 40 percent Kanye and 20 percent me."
DJ cosplayer Mercedes, was there as Storm, the Black Panther's ex-wife, in her royal guise. You can catch up with their recap here.
