Comixology Bestseller List, 20th July 2018: Of Course It's Batman

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Let's see: Batman and Justice League on top. Okay, looks like another week of DC domina– wait, what? Marvel won the Top 10? 7 to 3? How can this be?

Chalk it up to a combination of Fresh Start boosts and DC releasing far fewer titles this week. DC's third Wednesday has always been the weakest of the four, and now with no new Superman title, it's that much weaker. Meanwhile, this was a big week for Marvel, with two Jason Aaron titles, two big Star Wars titles, the best-selling X-Men book, Hulk, and Iron Man filling the Top 10.

Now, will this be happening more often? Hard to say. On one hand, for Marvel to get this victory, they had to release most of their heavy hitters on a week DC was vulnerable. On the other hand, they now have a growing stable of Top 10 threats, with more to come (including Fantastic Four's big return on August 8th). I predict DC will still win most weeks (and dominate a few), but the Digital Top 10 has now become more competitive.

East of West beats out The Magic Order for top indie comic of the week. And in other indie news… there's nothing to report. Seriously, all the top indie titles are staying stable, with no big rises or dips. Which is good for them, because they found loyal audiences. Not good for me though, because no change is not exciting to write about.

Marvel is launching the Marvel Digital Original line this week, and while Cloak and Dagger is just a repackaging of the recent 2018 comic, Jessica Jones is the brand-new Kelly Thompson title we've been hearing about. It will eventually hit stores, but for now you can get a 40-page digital issue for $4.99, which will be the case with every MDO book. It's in the Top 20 of new titles this week, close to what Brian Michael Bendis's run was ranked, and it's Marvel's most successful digital-first title to date.
