ComiXology Bestseller List, 3rd May 2019 – A Very Odd Week in Digital Comics

Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

It's a very odd week in digital comics. While the top of the bestseller list is crowded, there's very few mid-tier books this week. As a result, many titles typically ranked in the 20's and 30's got a boost. So before you get your hopes up, just know this isn't typical and your favorite comic is probably still in danger of cancellation. (Ok, that was a harsh way to put it).

And what's also odd is the best selling comic in stores this week isn't on the digital sales charts. DC's Year of the Villain, much like DC Nation #0 a year ago, is being sold in stores for a quarter.  But it's completely free on Comixology (in fact, you can even read it on Bleeding Cool here). The sales chart doesn't track freebies, unfortunately. (That'll teach you to be consumer friendly, DC. You should've taken the Marvel approach and sold it for $5.99 with a "Prelude" in the title).

But it turns out they didn't need it. DCeased had a great launch, beating War of the Realms and leading to a score of:

• DC: 31
• Marvel: 14
• Image: 10

When you don't even need your 25 cent book to crush your opponent, you had a good week. And it looks like DCeased will be another high selling miniseries for DC with similar numbers to Batman: White Knight.

In other news, Gerry Duggan and Mike Deodato's Savage Avengers had a solid debut at No. 12. But again, because the week is so odd we don't how well it would do compared to other mid-tier books. Suppose that's something we'll have to wait on. Regardless, it appears to be in the range one might expect a secondary Avengers title to land, if Uncanny Avengers and West Coast Avengers are any indication.
