Finder: Voice Is… by Greg Baldino
Finder: Voice is…
The latest volume in Carla Speed McNeil's creator-owned series, originally self-published as a black and white comic before moving to a webserial format. Now it's being published by Dark Horse Comics, who are bringing the rest of the series back into print in two omnibus collections, as well as running an all-new full-color serial in Dark Horse Presents.
Finder: Voice is…
The story of the night before Rachel Grosvenor's induction into her family's clan, when a casual mugging leaves her and her sister bruised and shaken– minus her family ring. WIthout it, she can't become a full member of society, not only screwing up her own life but her siblings' as well. The elusive Jaeger, a family friend with more skeletons than closets, could help her; he's a finder, a member of a secret society of elite trackers. But tracking down a man who doesn't want to be found easily may be harder than finding the ring.
Finder: Voice is…
A prime example of social science fiction and world-smithing that would fit in rightly with the works of Catherynne M. Valente and China Mieville if it was a prose novel. Instead it's in the fine company of Ellis and Robertson's Transmetropolitan and the Love and Rockets work of Los Bros Hernandez. McNeil conveys more emotion and depth through the slick line of a raised eyebrow than most can with an entire book, played out in a world that is unquestionably familiar and unshakably alien.
Finder: Voice is…
The story of one girl's long night's journey into adulthood, moving from one social echalon to another, searching for what she needs and finding instead what she wants.
