In October 2014, The Average Price Of A Top Ten Comic Book Is $4.50
Looking at the sums from October, the average price of a Top Ten comic book is $4.49. And that's even with the bestseller, The Walking Dead selling $2.99.
That's four at $4.99, one at $2.99, one at $5.99 and four at $3.99.
In comparison, the average price of a top ten comic in October 2004 was $2.69, A 66% increase in price in ten years.
In that time, the USA has experienced only 26% inflation. If the comic book market went up in price at the same average rate as everything else, a comic book should cost $3.39, over a dollar less than the current average.
Now, this month had the launch of Axis, two issues of Death Of Wolverine and the Harley Quinn Annual in the top ten, and Batman is going to go back to $3.99 from this month, thanks to the intervention of Scott Snyder – but, you know, there's always something…
Mind you, Action Comics #1 in 1938 was ten cents. With 1588% inflation since then… a comic should be $1.69. And that had sixty-four pages as well!
