It's Cartoon War!
This cartoon by Gerald Scarfe was published by The Times newspaper on Holocaust Memorial Day. Scarfe later apologised saying he was unaware of the day, and both the editor of the paper and publisher Rupert Murdoch have also apologised – a rare event indeed.
Stephen Pollard of the Jewish Chronicle and Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell got into it on BBC Radio 4's The Today Programme today. Pollard called the cartoon blood libel, Steve Bell called the use of the phrase "loose and ridiculous". He also compared it to the Scarfe cartoon the previous week featuring Assad clutching the head of a baby without comment from anyone.
Steve Bell's own cartoons of Benjamin Netenyahu, commanding Tony Blair and William Hague as hand puppets were also brought up, leading to quite the back and forth between the pair…
