Kevin Smith Rewrites Jay And Silent Bob as Hit-Girl Season Two – With a Lot Less Writing

Kevin Smith is a well-known writer, director, producer, actor, reality show host, podcaster and stand-up comedian. Today, he has a new comic book out, Hit-Girl Season Two, based on the Mark Millar/John Romita Jr character from Kick-Ass, now starring in her own comic book.

And because Mark Millar is an employee of Netflix under exclusive contract, and Hit-Girl, Kick-Ass and Kingsman are outside of that deal, he's not allowed to write them. Only publish them and make coin from other people instead.

Such as Kevin Smith.

And this is possibly the most typical Kevin Smith comic or the most atypical. Possibly both. When we first came to Kevin Smith writing comic books, it was with the Jay And Silent Bob titles. And amongst the many things you could say about them was that they were wordy.

Really wordy.

Alan Moore talks about restricting words in a comic book panel to 27. That's where Kevin Smith begins.

I mean, really. You thought Chris Claremont was verbose.

Well, at least Duncan Fegredo got paid the same, no matter how little he drew. Well, today's Hit-Girl goes in the opposite direction. There's still the gross sexuality jibes.

There's still the casual attitude to violence.

Contrasted with the seeming innocence of certain characters. And the hidden reality…

But, these are not unlettered previews. Kevin Smith is telling a comic with hardly any dialogue at all, which means the very limited use has greater impact when it arrives. No so much Silent Bob as Silent Mindy.

But for all that, this is a story about a Hit-Girl who finds a biography written about her, that's being turned into a movie and she's not happy about it. And so she heads to Hollywood to try and find the people responsible.

Which is completely the plot of Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back.

Just with slightly less slaughter. And slightly less weed.
