From KaBOOM!, written by Mark Evanier and Scott Nickel, with art by Andy Hirsch and David DeGrand, Garfield's Cheesy Holiday Special #1. The issue includes two holiday themed stories. First, Garfield and Odie help out a young girl at the mall looking for her lost dog in "Holly's Holiday Hope," then it's time for the not-so-classic story of "The Lasagna Monster That Stole Christmas," where the Lasagna Monster steals ALL the lasagna in the world on Christmas Day!
[WARNING: Mild spoilers for Garfield's Cheesy Holiday Special #1 below!]
There's nothing quite like the humor in Garfield comics. A scene like the one I've posted above is an excellent example of that. He is quite a clever cat. "Holly's Holiday Hope," is a sweet story besides that. It has its moments of comedy, but definitely sticks to the classic feel of what a Garfield comic is.
However, "The Lasagna Monster That Stole Christmas," has a much different feel. One that had me laughing out loud and a little scared to encounter a dish of lasagna. We get a little backstory on the origins of the lasagna monster. You can see a little bit of it below, and from there we are given a unique Christmas tale.
Overall, I feel like this is a really fun issue to grab any comic book fan. It's cute, unique, and well-written. Here's my official warning though…it will probably make you hungry. Be sure to pick up your copy of Garfield's Cheesy Holiday Special #1 this Wednesday.
