Numbercrunching Marvel August 2011 Solicitations

Numbercrunching Marvel August 2011 SolicitationsTime for a slightly delayed numbercrunching for Marvel's August-shipping comic books.

Two things of note. Marvel have seemed to decide that their $2.99 books will be 20 pages long now, just like DC. Exepct they aren't saying so, and refuse to say what any of their books will actually be in terms of story length. And I've asked. Not even an estimate. So we have no other choice to presume that all their $2.99 books will be 20 pages by August.

Marvel have also dropped the page counts of their Avengers and Spider-Man titles from 30 pages to 22 pages. That will also have an effect. And now the price per page of a Marvel title is close to what it was in January, before Marvel implemented changes that would save customers money.

Of course, if Marvel would tell us how many story pages were in each title when retailers order them, that would help. One day maybe.

And for a publisher that at the beginning of the year was talking about plans to reduce the number of books they were publishing, August sees more Marvel Universe character books than any other month of the year, five-week month or not…

Note Avengers Academy, Thunderbolts, Incredible Hulks, Thor: Heaven & Earth, X-Factor, Wolverine, Uncanny X-Force, Deadpool, Dark Wolverine and New Mutants get two issues a piece. Ultimate Fallout gets three. And Journey Into Mystery, Herc and X-Men get additional Point One issues too…
