A Piggy's Tale #2 – Fighting Crime With Empathy And A 'Gross-bow'

The charming story of Piggy, a 3 legged Superhero dog, along with his sidekicks Simon and Melanie, makes its adventurous return. I'm so excited to give you a little glimpse into A Piggy's Tale issue 2, as I adored every second.

Magee, evil super villain, has a special ray that will take Melanie's powers of hearing animals talk, and transfer that power to himself. That way he can broadcast a message to Piggy and steal his flying power. Melanie escapes by getting a hold of Simon's homemade "gross-bow" with a little help from her friends, and Magee gets pelted with the kitty litter, garbage concocted goulash. Magee takes it a step further when he realizes his plan is going awry and blasts Piggy with his "bigger ray gun". All of the animals that have ever been helped by Piggy rally together and destroy the ray gun before Piggy's powers are completely gone. Piggy's superpower allows him to look beyond the anger he feels as he sees the terror on Magee's face and realizes that Magee is just a pawn in Dr. Huntington's evil scheme. We end on a cliffhanger and see that Dr. Huntington has a secret weapon! I won't ruin it for you, but it is pretty epic!

Tod Emko and Ethan Young have come up with a unique all-ages story, and it definitely shows on the pages of A Piggy's Tale. Emko has taken his real life Superhero dog Piggy and created a comic based on his courageous story. He gives us the message that no matter now bleak things may look, don't ever give up. He writes Simon (also Emko's real life super kitty) as an independent kitty that makes super cool weapons and can hold his own, but at the same time he really needed Piggy to come into his life. The friendship that forms between them is really heartwarming to read and translates so well to the comic.

Young has a tremendous amount of talent, and his panels are very smooth-flowing. The shading is exact on Magee's face, making him look all the more sinister. I really love that Melanie has pink hair as it shows a young girl embracing her own choices and style. I have a 9 year old that would love to have purple hair, and that was one of the things she noticed about this comic. Emko and Young have created a comic that empowers kids and lets them know that you can be a superhero with empathy, courage and friends.
