Those Nerds at Archaia Want You to Spend Your Summer Reading Graphic Novels

Summer is almost here, and you know what that means! No more pencils! No more books! No more teachers' dirty looks! Well, actually, scratch that "no more books" thing, because BOOM! Studios is trying to get people to spend their Summer reading graphic novels from their Archaia Imprint.

To promote this strange initiative, BOOM! has released first-look previews of four of their upcoming graphic novels as part of their Archaia Summer Reading initiative: Run Wild, About Betty's Boob, Persephone, and Sanpaku. Check out the previews below:

Persephone by Loïc Locatelli-Kournwsky, in stores in May:

Arriving in stores this May, PERSEPHONE follows a young girl whose search for the truth about her identity leads her on a journey deep into the Underworld by visionary writer/artist Loïc Locatelli-Kournwsky. She may be the adopted daughter of the famous magician Demeter, but Persephone struggles to find her place alongside the force of nature that is her mother. Driven by recurring nightmares, she decides to explore the secrets of her birth, which everyone around her seems rather intent on keeping from her. With or without their help, Persephone will embark on an epic adventure deep into the Underworld where she'll discover who—or what—she is.

About Betty's Boob by Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau, in stores in June:

Arriving in stores this June, ABOUT BETTY'S BOOB is an affecting and inspired examination of one woman's painful, surreal, and oddly humorous journey following a mastectomy. Master storytellers Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau present the original graphic novel story of Betty, who wakes up alone in a hospital room and finds herself disoriented by the body that greets her. She must face the cruel outside world obsessed with beauty standards, starting with her boyfriend, who's having a very hard time dealing with her new look. No one seems to know what to make of this new Betty and neither does she.

Run Wild by K.I. Zachopoulos and Vincenzo Balzano, in stores in July:

When all of civilization begins turning into animals, only two people remain–young siblings Ava and Flynn. Sanpaku by Kate Gavino, in stores in August:

Arriving in stores this August, SANPAKU, from cartoonist Kate Gavino (Last Night's Reading) gives voice to the insecurities that haunt teens of all cultures told through the eyes of Marcine, a young woman fascinated with the Japanese idea of Sanpaku—that seeing the white around the iris of your eyes is a bad omen. But it's everywhere Marcine looks—her grandmother has it, some classmates at Catholic school have it, JFK had it…even Marcine might suffer from this odd condition. Eating a strict macrobiotic diet and meditating is supposed to help, but no matter how much Marcine wants it to, it can't save her grandmother's life or make her days at school any easier.
