Titan Magazines Reprint Oni Rick and Morty Comics for UK Newsstand

Today, Titan Magazines is launching brand-new newsstand magazine in the UK based on the critically-acclaimed Adult Swim series, Rick & Morty, and reprinting material from the Oni Press line of Rick & Morty comics in the US.

Each magazine will reprint three Oni Press comic books – for the price of just over one of the US comics.

The 76-page Rick & Morty Magazine will offer readers a mix of comics, episode guide and in-house features, character biographies and more. There is sadly no free pickle with issue 1, you'll have to buy your own. May I recommend Soho's Pickle & Toast for such?

The first issue has gone on sale today at £3.99 from WHSmiths and other newsagents. Import copies to the US will no doubt become a thing…

Rick & Morty created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures. The series premiered on December 2nd, 2013, and the third season concluded on October 1, 2017. In May 2018, the series was picked up for an additional 70 episodes.

Roiland voices Rick and Morty, with Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer and Sarah Chalke voicing the rest of the family. The series originated from an animated short parody film of Back to the Future, The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti, created by Roiland for Channel 101, a short film festival co-founded by Harmon. When Adult Swim approached Harmon for television show ideas, he and Roiland decided to develop a program based on the short.

The series has received ridiculous acclaim for its originality, creativity and humour. And after avoiding it for too many years, I just watched all three series back to back and am very annoyed that I avoided it so long because of its ubiquity.

The comics are pretty schwifty too. Sorry, I hate myself. Mostly written by Zac Gorman and drawn by CJ Cannon, as well as people like Tom Fowler and Marc Ellerby joining in, the comic features the Rick and Morty (and supporting cast) of a different timeline, allowing the comics to tell stories without conflicting with the canon of the show.
