What Throbs Beneath the Surface of This No One Left to Fight #2 Preview?
Aubrey Sitterson and Fico Ossio's No One Left to Fight #1 was a hit for Dark Horse Comics, with the first printing selling out and rocketing in price on eBay, necessitating a second printing. No One Left to Fight #2 comes out a week from Wednesday, and Dark Horse gave an EX-X-XCLUSIVE preview to The Hollywood Reporter, which we've stolen and posted below.
Here's what THR had to say about the issue:
What keeps things alive, up to a point, is the imperturbable attitude of the titular heroine, who is invested with try-and-stop-me spirit by Moner, who's actually 18 and looks it despite preventive measures. The same goes for Wahlberg, who's 19. There's a palpable gap you can't help but notice between the essentially innocent, borderline-pubescent nature of the leading characters and the film itself, and the more confident and mature vibes emanating from the leading actors. The director seems to be trying to keep the hormones at bay, but there are some things you just can't disguise, perhaps human nature first and foremost. Dora seems committed to projecting a pre-sexualized version of youth, while throbbing unacknowledged beneath the surface is something a bit more real, its presence rigorously ignored. To be believed, this story should have been set in 1955.
Wait, sorry, there's been an error. That was actually what THR had to say about… *checks notes*… Really? The Dora the Explorer movie? Oof!
Anyway, No One Left to Fight is a creator-owned series inspired by classic anime like Dragon Ball but exploring more adult themes. Not the kind of adult themes a THR reviewer wants to be explored in Dora the Explorer. More like dealing with the kind of emotional stuff regular people do as they grow older. But with more punching. You know what we mean.
Check out the preview below.
