Will Secret Wars Really See A Marvel Relaunch?

image7-600x448

So the prevailing theory is that a whole bunch of Marvel comics are going to be cancelled as part of the Secret Wars event, and replaced by other books in the interim, just as happened with the Age Of Apocalypse event. So Uncanny X-Men would be replaced by an Age Of Apocalypse, New X-Men replaced by Years Of Future Past, that kind of thing.

But a little Amazon fishing provides a different narrative.

Take Uncanny X-Men. This Amazon listing for Vol 6: Revolution

That looks like a 6 issue collection of Uncanny X-Men. The previous Vol 5 runs from #26 until March's Uncanny X-Men #31. Now even if they double shipped in April there would still have to be two issues in May to make up the 6 issues if they were to cancel the comic for Secret Wars.

Similarly with All-New X-Men Vol 7: The Utopians. Assuming they skip the Black Vortex crossover issues. The first issue of Utopians arc drops in May. That's only 2 issues since the last collection. Even if they double ship in May that's only 3 and it looks like a 5 issue tpb. Now they could include the Black Vortex issues of course….

But it's a similar story with Ms. Marvel Volume 3 collecting Ms. Marvel #12-15 and Annual #1. Well, first, Ms Marvel is getting an annual, probably in  April. But if this book was to be cancelled for a Secret Wars relaunch, there would need to be 2 issues and an annual in April. Doesn't seem likely.

Maybe some of those assumptions – my assumptions – need to be rewritten.

Unless, of course, they can find a way to stretch those issues until July, ahead of September…
