Into The Woods With Ninjak, His Unlikely Allies And An Enchanted Sword

As the Ninjak series hits its 25th episode, Matt Kindt and Stephen Segovia are telling one of the most twisted stories I've seen in comics in a long time. The character of Colin King was a MI6 agent who fell in love with his handler, and then she was killed. He then trained to be the Ninjak with the Undead Monk and become obsessed with bringing down the Shadow Seven. He also cross swords with Roku, a living weapon that makes his life hell and tries to take everything from him.

Roku is part of the Shadow Seven along with Kannon, La Barbe, Sanguine, Fitzy and Fakir. The mysterious seventh member turns out to be Ninjak himself. They've all been brought together by Sandria Darque to assassinate her brother, Master Darque. She promises to give Ninjak knowledge in return for his service… including the real identity of Roku. She also gives him an enchantment on his sword that will not only kill the next person he cuts, but will remove them from all memory. Which beats the hell out of a +4 Dexterity enchantment. With this issue hitting stand on Wednesday, the unlikely team heads into Darquewoods to find Master Darque before he can fully recover. But there are a lot of creatures in the way and you have to wonder if Roku brought the team there to stop Darque or to feed him.

For two years, Ninjak has been a slow build, giving us just enough information to keep us interested as we moved along the path. Now it seems we are close to the finish line of sorts and this issue puts the pieces in place. Setting us up for the showdown between Master Darque and Ninjak and to see where Roku's loyalties really lie. This isn't a good place to jump in on and the issue doesn't stand well on its own, but as a piece to the overall puzzle it moves a lot of things forwards and sets things up. And I really can't wait to see what happens between Ninjak and Roku at the end of this all.
