X-ual Healing: Man-Groot-Thing vs. Hulkverine in Weapon H #4
Sworn to sell comics for Marvel executives who feared and hated the fact that Fox owned their movie rights, The Uncanny X-Men suffered great indignities, but with a corporate merger on the way, the X-Men can finally get back to doing what they do best: being objectively the best franchise in comics.
Each week, armed with the joy, heartbreak, and frustration of 30+ years of reading X-Men comics, we read every new X-book that comes out, recap the events, provide some back-links to Marvel Unlimited, and wonder when Marvel will let Chris Claremont write something again. Seriously, how do you have the greatest writer in the history of comics on the payroll and just not use him for anything?
It's the way X-Men comics were meant to be read! It's the column that can only be known as…

WEAPON H #4

MAN-THING VERSUS HULKVERINE!
• Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of Man-Thing. And Clay – A.K.A. Weapon H – has a lot to be afraid of.
• He'll do anything to keep his family safe from the monster he's become. But Roxxon Corporation has other plans – and they're inches from capturing a vital part of Clay's past.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
We start off with Roxxon CEO Dario Agger in Fort Worth, Texas, visiting Sergeant Anson Davies, Weapon H's old army buddy who Weapon H's wife, Sonia, visited last issue while trying to track down her husband. Agger wants to know who Weapon H really is. Davies pulls a gun on him. Agger transforms into giant bull. Before he murders Davies, Davies lets slip that Weapon H has a family he can exploit.
In Odessa, Texas, Sonia boards a buss trying to track down her husband. She flashes back to a memory of Weapon H in the Redwood National Forest, in which it seems like her husband would rather be there in the woods than back home. In the present. Weapon H is in that same forest when he's attacked by The Man-Thing! Well, not necessarily *the* Man-Thing. It's a Man-Thing, genetically engineered by Roxxon to include Groot DNA. Weapon H Hulks out, and they fight. While they're brawling, Agger talks to Weapon H through a robot bug. Weapon H has no fear so he hasn't been burned by the Man-Thing's touch… yet. But when Agger mentions that he's going to track down Weapon H's family, he becomes very afraid.
As people flee the park, Sonia has arrived. She notices another woman sneaking into the forest and follows her to find Weapon H and Man-Thing still battling. It's Dr. Ella Sterling, who we met in a previous issue. She knows Clay's biggest secret, and that secret is Sonia. Sonia realizes that Weapon H is her husband Clay. They're finally reunited… for a moment. Roxxon choppers are coming, and Weapon H tells Sonia and Dr. Sterling to run away. He says Roxxon will come after Sonia and the kids. He'll stay behind and hold them off. Sonia disagrees, so Weapon H tosses her and Dr. Sterling into a lake. Roxxon captures him and carries him off.
The Bottom Line
Poor Weapon H! Will he ever find happiness? Well, it's only 4 issues in, so he's probably got a lot more misery to go first. This comic continues to be way, way better than its premise deserves.
