Blizzard Will Be Scaling Back on Heroes of the Storm
Blizzard made an announcement today to all of their fans of Heroes of the Storm that the company will be cutting back production on the game. The word came down in a letter to the community from Blizzard's president J. Allen Brack and chief development officer Ray Gresko, who announced that development resources currently being put into the game would be shifting into other departments. They also had the unfortunate task of letting esports players know that Heroes Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm would not be returning in 2019, effectively killing Blizzard's official participation. However, no mention was made whether or not that would affect independent leagues or if they would show support to any of those moving forward.
You can read the full letter here. The good news to take away from this is that Blizzard hasn't taken Heroes of the Storm offline or officially canceled it. Meaning there's probably some work being done on it from a smaller team, while others are probably being moved to areas that need work. Like adding more content to World of Warcraft, or working on Diablo 4 like all the Diablo fans have been demanding the company push out. What will happen to the game moving forward is anyone's guess, but if there's any comfort to take from this, its that Blizzard usually takes care of their fanbase when it comes to online gaming. Seriously, how many years has Starcraft II still had dedicated servers? So at least everyone who owns the game can play it moving forward.
