Browsing The Latest Gear From Alienware At PAX West
I almost missed a chance to chat with the folks from Alienware and Dell as our first appointment didn't happen on time, but we managed to catch up later at PAX West and got a preview of some awesome gear. Now the primary stuff that was shown off to me was Inspiron Gaming Desktop, the 17 KBL, The Inspiron 15 laptop, and my personal favorite that I need in my home immediately, the new 34" wraparound monitors. All of which we have pictures of below, and believe me, looking at three of those monitors hooked together in person made me drool and wish I had a lot of cash right now. But the thing that got most of my attention was this little beauty below.
This is Dell's new VR helmet, simply called the Dell Visor. What made this VR unit so awesome is that there's no major setup you have to do or bulky gear to deal with. You got the helmet and the two joysticks, ready for plug and play. The visor on the front has two cameras that monitor where the joysticks are, which come with a set of lights to help the visor find them and also indicate where your hands are in the game. Essentially, Dell has improved on some other designs, added some new features and slimmed it down. This thing weighed less than the PlayStation unit, which made me smile since it's the lightest of all the VR gear you can buy right now. No price points or release dates were given to me at PAX, but I can't imagine it is too far out.
