Canadian Walmart Puts Death Stranding Release Date Up, But Its Not Real

Canadian Walmart is one of the finest resources we have for leaked video game dates next to Amazon and Korean ratings systems. But this week, they let us down with a listing for Death Stranding. The company posted a pre-order placeholder for the game on their website with the date of June 30th, with Walmart itself responding to people asking about it on Twitter.

The entire ordeal has even gotten a response from The Game Awards' Geoff Keighley, who poked fun at the possibility of getting more leaks.

The reality of the situation, however, is that it's a fake. Retail stores usually put items without a secure date into a placeholder at the end of a month when they want to make money off a for-sure item in advance while the publisher drags their feet. It happened to Smash Bros., it happened to Fallout 76, it's happening here. Anyone with enough sense to look at a calendar will see that June 30th, 2019, is on a Sunday. Not like games haven't been released on a Sunday, but a AAA title from Kojima? Don't play yourself, Death Stranding is coming out on a Tuesday or a Friday for massive coin. Hopefully, we'll find out at The Game Awards with all the rumored planning for a massive announcement, but honestly, who the hell knows at this point.
